We are Jim and Cheryl Evans, along with our two daughters Madison and Brooke and our son Jackson.
We are a growing family farm, dedicated to organic growing methods. We are not certified organic, but we are looking into the long process of becoming certified, which is a future goal for the farm.
We are located on 10 acres of rich organic soil, the farm was once a tree nursery. We are currently growing on about 6 acres with plans for further expansion of growing areas. Since the farm was once a tree farm, we have lots of trees, shrubs, and bushes to remove or relocate on the farm, we are keeping several areas as they are, to ensure the local wildlife has a place too, like the Great Horned owls that call our farm home, and that we have helped rescue over the last several years. We also have several areas of expansion we are very interested in, one is a u-pick tree fruit orchard, we have the room for trees, and know that we would be the only organic tree fruit orchard in northern Illinois. Another area of expansion are high tunnels, like the one pictured to the right, we will be able to expand our growing season, and create new streams of revenue with resturant sales, and other markets. We will be able to grow almost year round with a high tunnel, making our vegetable offerings reach even more people and business'.
This year we are planning on adding a u-pick raspberry patch, adding up to 5oo raspberry plants. Eventually land will be the required expansion and we must start preparing now for financing these future endeavors. With these expansions we need help in achieving our goals, this is where you come in, we appreciate donations to the farm, no matter how big or small; or long term low interest loans from people who believe in local small scale farming, and the advancement of organic farming. We are looking for partners to help us grow into a premiere small scale local farm, and help preserve the safety of our food chain, and not depend on mega corporations to provide our food to us. Get to know your local farmer, and see how good real food can be.
